Mirallas himself has admitted that his agent has already been in contact with Arsenal but a formal offer hasn't been placed yet and it appears that the Belgian has a buy-out clause of just €8.25million (equivalent to approximately £6.4million) which is a low price to pay, this is probably what caught Arsene Wenger's eye. I myself haven't seen too much of Mirallas in action if I'm honest, just a few Champions League games and a couple of International friendlies that's about it, but I have to say his stats for Olympiakos are quite impressive. In his 2 years in the Greek SuperLeague, the 24 year old has already bagged himself 34 goals in just 52 league game, an excellent ratio.
He has also hinted that he would like to play in the English Premier League according to Sky Sports.
"Thomas (Vermaelen) plays very good at Arsenal and now a lot of Belgian players are in the Premier League. (Moving to England) It's good for me, it's good for my family and it's a good opportunity, but I don't know...it's possible."So yeah, from this quote it would seem that a move may be on the cards. A good thing about Mirallas is that he has quick feet and good trickery on the ball from what I've seen and he also stands at 6ft tall so acquiring his services would add even more height to the squad which is only going to be a positive thing for a team that gets 'bullied' sometimes. Another thing that just came to mind is maybe he could be replacing Theo Walcott? He is in the same position contract wise as Van Persie with his also expiring at the end of the season and with Liverpool reportedly interested in Theo, Mirallas maybe a replacement? Its just thought, of course but, I wouldn't rule it completely out.
In My Opinion: As an Arsenal fan I would welcome any new exciting signing because to be honest, they don't come along too often for us and for a fee of under £7m I'm thinking, why not. I can't see Bendtner staying much longer as he is apparently 'mulling over offers' from other clubs, so his departure is hopefully imminent. Chamakh and Park on the other hand, I don't believe there is any news about these players being transferred but it is obvious that they aren't good enough for a top 4 side in the Premier League, so I'm hoping for their departure also. So that would leave us with RVP, Giroud and Podolski in the striker role, well I say RVP, I don't really expect him to stay, so maybe we do really need the signing of Mirallas. Similarly to Lukas Podolski his versatility mean he can play anywhere across the front line which in turn gives us more options and his goal scoring ability can't be ignored. Sign him up Mr Wenger.
